Herculaneum, the first buried Vesuvian city to be discovered (1709), preserved under pyroclastic material from the
eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, is our destination today. A fascinating tour of this seaside retreat for the Roman elite
with its grand and luxurious houses, baths and carbonized wood objects such as roofs, beds and doors. An easy lunch
before our conquest of Vesuvius! Breathtaking views over the Gulf of Naples from the summit of the volcano will

• In the early afternoon the visit will continue to approximately 1,000 m by road, and from here the walk to the crater. An alpine guide will provide information about the history of the crater
